With the end of summer, Vienna starts into the wine & hiking season. Disover the wine hills in and around the city of Vienna with numerous wine makers and "Heurigen" (special restaurants in wine areas offering everything about wine and regional kitchen). No matter if Kahlenberg, Leopoldsberg, Bisamberg or Cobenzl - from every single of those "Viennese house mountains" you can enjoy a great view over the city whilst drinking a glas of wine. Especially during autumn the trees of "Wienerwald" forest are changing its colours and are definetely worth a visit. In this blog we want to present you some hiking routes as well as the one or other event happening in Vienna during September and October 2018.
The following links are in german language, but if you need any help our team at the reception is always there to help you! Additionally to these hiking routes we also still recommend out autumn excursion hints from the last year.
- From Salmannsdorf to Grinzing (6,3 km)
- From Grinzing to Nussdorf (5,5 km)
- Wine-Idyll Mauer (6,7 km)

This event is very popular! "Stürmische Tage" (translation: stormy days) are taking place at Kellergasse in Stammersdorf, an old wine region in the north of Vienna with lots of wine cellars. The name of the event comes from an unfinished wine, called "Sturm". This very sweet, alcoholic grape drink has not received fermentation. And on this special weekend this festival is taking place with lots of local products and wines to taste in numerous restaurants and wine bars. The entire wine street will be closed for car traffic and you can sit outside on extra placed tables to enjoy a "Sturm" with friends.

On Saturday, October 6th, 2018, the "Long Night of Museums" is taking place for the 19th time. About 700 museums, galleries and other participating institutions open their doors between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m.. But the best part is, that you just have to buy one ticket for the entire night - besides children up to 12 years of age, they receive free entry. Additionally the entry ticket is also useable as a ticket for the public traffic lines in Vienna and the shuttle bus which will be driving extra for this special event. So if you are interested in culture, there is no other choice as to combine your stay in Vienna with a visit in several museums during that night. No matter if you want to learn about animals in the Museum of National History, take a look at paintings in Albertina, take a ride in historical tramways at the Ring or try some liquors in "Schnaps Museum".
