Haus des Meeres - Aqua Terra Zoo

My name is Sabrina and I am the Front Office Manager at the Austria Classic Hotel Wien and I spent a great afternoon at the Haus des Meeres with my children. It's not only wonderful to look at but also a nice alternative in bad weather. The children are kept busy here and distracted from the digital world. You have the opportunity to “pet” fish, which was a special highlight for my boys. With free-roaming monkeys and birds that you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of, it offers additional fun for young and old.

The former flak tower

The House of the Sea is located in the 6th district of Vienna, more precisely in the Esterházypark. The building in which the House of the Sea is located was originally an anti-aircraft tower built during the Second World War. The tower was later converted into an aquarium and vivarium and is now home to an impressive variety of sea creatures. The House of the Sea offers a wide range of exhibitions showcasing marine life from different parts of the world. These include aquariums with fish, coral reefs, sharks, turtles and other marine life. There is also a terrarium that houses various reptiles.

The amazing view

There is a viewing terrace on the roof of the tower from which visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of Vienna. This is an additional attraction of the House of the Sea and allows for a unique change of perspective. The House of the Sea regularly offers events and guided tours for visitors. This can be a great opportunity to learn more about the different sea creatures and gain a deeper insight into the work of the vivarium.

Environmental Protection

The House of the Sea is also committed to environmental protection and is committed to preserving and protecting the marine environment. This is reflected in various educational programs and initiatives.

Restaurant 360° Ocean Sky

Finally, we sat down in the 360° Ocean Sky Restaurant on the top floor and ate a delicious cake. Here you will be looked after wonderfully and also have a great view over Vienna.

Information & how to get there

Before visiting the House of the Sea, it is advisable to check the current information on the official website to ensure you are aware of the latest opening times, events and entrance fees.
How do you get there? By public transport is the best way to get there! Take the U1 to Stephansplatz then change to the U3 (direction Ottakring) to Neubaugasse and then another 3 minute walk.
A great combination: visit the Haus des Meeres and then go shopping on Mariahilfer Straße. I wish you a lot of fun!

Best regards
Sabrina
