Environmental protection & sustainability
We are not a hotel that gets all its energy from wind power or imports coffee by sailing ship—and we stand by that.
But we take responsibility. Through conscious actions and mindful use of resources, we want to work together with our guests to help protect our environment.
What we do for the environment
✔ Waste separation – we separate glass, metal, plastic wrap, plastic, Tetra Pak, and paper.
✔ Packaging – at breakfast, we avoid individually packaged foods whenever possible.
✔ Local suppliers – we give preference to regional producers. Bread and pastries come from Ungersbäck, and fruit is sourced from Austrian organic farms whenever possible.
✔ Laundry – we work with a long-established Viennese company that uses electric delivery vans for short transport routes
✔ Cleaning – we use pre-moistened microfiber cloths to avoid using too much cleaning solution.
✔ Washing machines – an automatic dispenser prevents the overuse of detergent.
✔ Lighting – we have replaced all incandescent bulbs with LED lighting.
✔ Charging stations for electric vehicles – two Tesla charging stations are available in our courtyard parking lot.
✔ Photovoltaic system on the courtyard roof – sustainably covers part of our electricity needs.
✔ Resource savings – by using green care PROFESSIONAL products from Werner & Mertz, we save 69 kg of crude oil, 5 kg of plastic, and 216 kg of carbon dioxide.
✔ Paperless office – our internal accounting department operates largely paperless.
Sustainability in the rooms
✔ Bed linens and towels changed on request: You decide when they’re changed.
✔ Water-saving fixtures: Our showers and sinks are equipped with water-saving devices.
✔ Recycled products: We use recycled toilet paper in all rooms.
✔ Refillable dispensers instead of single-use products: Shampoo and soap are available in eco-friendly dispensers.
✔ Glass bottles in the room: Enjoy Viennese spring water straight from the tap.
✔ The green option: If you opt out of daily room cleaning, we donate 1 euro per day to a reforestation project.

Our tips
Arrival
We recommend traveling by train or bicycle. We’ll reward you with the Green Bonus (see below).
Waste separation
A waste separation system is available on every floor and in our parking lot. Our housekeeping team will handle the proper sorting.
Linen and towel changes
Please use the cards by the bed to let us know when you’d like your linens changed. Towels left on the floor or in the shower will be replaced. Towels left hanging will be reused.
Parking
Please do not leave the engine of your parked car running unnecessarily.
Water
In Vienna, there’s no need to buy water in plastic bottles—it comes straight from the tap for free! We’re grateful for the excellent quality of our mountain spring water supply. And yes, we’re a little proud of it, too. In the summer, there are numerous drinking fountains throughout the city where you can refill your bottle for free.
Food
Food is precious and, in our opinion, deserves the utmost respect. Its production, transportation, and disposal all take a toll on the environment. And yes, it breaks our hearts when we see, for example, croissants at breakfast that have only been taken a single bite out of, or when we clear away plates that are still full and everything ends up in the trash.
Air conditioning and heating
Our house is 200 years old, and the climate has changed. In the past, air conditioning wasn’t necessary; today, it’s often indispensable in the summer. On hot days, the air conditioning runs in cooling mode, and in the winter, radiators heat your room. During the transitional seasons, please open the window for fresh air.

At the Austria Classic Hotel Vienna, you can get reusable water bottles filled with fresh Viennese spring water right in your room. Perfect for exploring Vienna.
The €7 fee per water bottle is donated to the WWF to support environmental projects.
Guests who book directly with us and arrive by bike receive a water bottle as a gift.

Solar power system for sustainable energy in Vienna
We operate our own 49 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof of our courtyard. This allows our hotel in Vienna to generate part of its electricity from solar energy.
Photovoltaics convert sunlight into electrical energy. The solar panels generate electricity that is used to power the hotel and helps reduce CO₂ emissions.
With this investment, we are strengthening our energy independence and sending a clear signal for sustainable hotel operations in Vienna. Our goal remains to combine comfort with environmental responsibility.

Guests who travel by bike or train from their home and book directly with us will receive a 5% discount on the available rate, in addition to the direct booking discount. Simply enter the word GREENBONUS in the “Promotion Code” field when booking online.
Terms and conditions::
✔ Travel by bike or train must begin at your place of residence.
✔ If you travel to Europe by plane and then continue to Vienna by bike or train, the Greenbonus unfortunately does not apply.
✔ Travel by train: Please present a valid train ticket upon arrival (starting point: your place of residence). Unfortunately, a rapid transit ticket cannot be accepted.
✔ Cannot be combined with other discounts
✔ Classic Points cannot be redeemed for this offer
If you are unable to meet the above conditions, the Greenbonus cannot be deducted and will be added back to your hotel bill.
