Our “Max Steiner” café-bar, featuring a terrace on the first floor, is a cozy gathering spot at the Austria Classic Hotel Vienna and the perfect place for a quick break or a relaxing end to the day.
From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., we serve specialty coffees and teas, beer, wine, soft drinks, and a selection of spirits. The bar is non-smoking and offers a pleasant atmosphere where you can linger.
The story behind the name
Maximilian Raoul “Max” Steiner was born on May 10, 1888, at our hotel. He died on December 28, 1971, in Beverly Hills, California. He was an Austrian-American composer who ranks among the most successful and influential film score composers in cinematic history and is often described as the “father of film music.”
He received a total of 24 Oscar nominations and won the Oscar three times. His scores for *Gone with the Wind*, *King Kong*, *Casablanca*, and *A Summer place* are famous. In *King Kong and the White Woman* in 1933, he accompanied dialogue with music for the first time in film history.
