Sustainability in the Hotel: Why Environmental Protection Matters to Us Every Day
At the Austria Classic Hotel Wien, sustainability is not a trend and not an advertising slogan – it is something we consciously live every day. That is why we are especially pleased that our hotel has been awarded both the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel.
For us, this certification is not only an award, but also a confirmation that many small everyday measures can make a difference.
Our Journey Towards Greater Sustainability
On 23 January 2025, we were able to receive the certificates for the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel at the ministry. For us, this was a very special moment. Together with two long-standing team leaders from our hotel, I had the pleasure of attending the official award ceremony – representing a team that works with great commitment every day to act more sustainably.
Especially in the hotel industry, many processes involve the use of resources. That is why we consciously try to make sustainable decisions in as many areas as possible.
Sustainability at the Austria Classic Hotel Wien
Many of our measures may seem small at first glance – but together, they make a big difference.
For example, we pay attention to:
consistent waste separation
regional suppliers
short transport routes
energy-saving LED lighting
paper-reduced processes
more sustainable cleaning products
conscious handling of packaging at breakfast
What is especially important to us is that sustainability remains practical and truly works in everyday hotel life.
For example, we source our bread and pastries from regional businesses, we try to use Austrian products whenever possible when it comes to fruit, and our laundry service works with short transport routes within Vienna. When it comes to cleaning products and washing systems, we also rely on solutions that conserve resources and help avoid overdosing.
Sustainable Holidays in Vienna
More and more guests consciously pay attention to sustainability when travelling – and we very much welcome this.
Many of our guests now arrive by train or explore Vienna on foot or by public transport. Thanks to our central location in the 2nd district, this is especially easy. Sights, restaurants, museums and the Vienna Prater can often be reached without a car.
In addition, we offer:

a Green Bonus for climate-friendly travel
For us, a sustainable holiday does not mean giving things up, but travelling more consciously.
Sustainability Begins with Many Small Decisions
What I particularly like about this topic is that sustainability rarely comes from one single big measure. The many small decisions made every day are far more important. Whether it is waste separation, saving energy, regional products or the conscious use of resources – all of this has become a natural part of everyday hotel life for us.
Of course, we are still far from perfect and are constantly learning. But that is exactly what it is about: becoming more sustainable step by step.
