My name is Lorenzo, and I work as a Night Receptionist and Barkeeper at the Austria Classic Hotel Wien.
Today, I’d like to take you on a small digital journey to some of my favorite (cocktail) bars in Vienna – with a special focus on places that shine during the summer months. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this little story. I hope it serves as inspiration for your next trip – or perhaps even your current stay – in this unique and vibrant city. Please note that this is a personal selection of bars and locations. It’s not intended to be exhaustive or based on any technical criteria – just a collection of places that have left a lasting impression on me over the years. I’ve chosen them with the mindset of a traveler (which I once was when I first visited Vienna), imagining where I would go to enjoy a taste of Viennese flair combined with the refreshing atmosphere of a well-made drink – or two.

Thirdly, I’d like to introduce you to a place with a unique name and an even more unique atmosphere: Spelunke – which literally means “cave” in German. True to its name, Spelunke embraces a dark, stylish, and slightly edgy interior, offering a cool and refreshing contrast to the heat of summer days. The ambiance is modern yet cozy, with a young-adult-oriented vibe and a music selection that perfectly complements the setting.While they regularly host special event nights and music parties, it’s also a great spot on regular days to enjoy one of their elaborate and carefully crafted signature cocktails.

The drinks here are not only well-balanced and beautifully served, but also reflect a real sense of creativity and character. Whether you're stopping by for a relaxed evening or catching one of their lively nights, Spelunke Is definitely worth discovering. Also, this location is just a few minutes’ walk from our hotel, making it an easy and spontaneous choice for guests. My personal suggestion: visit in the late afternoon or early evening, when the atmosphere gradually comes to life and the vibes start to build. It’s the perfect time to settle in, enjoy the setting, and watch the energy of the place grow as the night unfolds.

When speaking of outstanding locations, it's hard not to mention two fantastic spots: Libelle, located in the MuseumsQuartier, and Lamee Rooftop, right in the heart of Vienna’s Old Town. Both places offer breathtaking views over the city, allowing you to enjoy your drink with a panorama that truly captures Vienna’s charm from above. Libelle is easily reachable from our hotel and can be perfectly combined with a cultural visit to the nearby museums. While it might be slightly more expensive, the experience is absolutely worth it – from the architectural design and attention to detail, to the friendly and attentive staff. Their signature cocktails are not only visually stunning but also full of creative twists that make every sip memorable. Libelle is a great choice if you're looking for a drink in a uniquely designed, modern space that feels a little out of the ordinary. After a day exploring art and culture, relaxing on their terrace with one of their refreshing creations is the perfect way to round off your visit.

A great idea is to combine your visit to these rooftop gems with a cultural or historical experience. For example, start your afternoon at the Leopold Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Egon Schiele, along with masterpieces by Klimt, Kokoschka, and other key figures of Vienna’s Secession era. After immersing yourself in the city’s rich artistic heritage, head up to Libelle for a refreshing cocktail with a spectacular sunset view over the city’s museum district. Alternatively, take a walk through Vienna’s Old Town, exploring its narrow streets, historic landmarks, and hidden courtyards. As the day winds down, Lamee Rooftop awaits with a breathtaking view over St. Stephen’s Cathedral – the perfect spot to relax and raise a glass to a day well spent.

Finally, I’d like to mention a place that was recently recommended to me by Laura, a colleague who also shares a passion for cocktails: Everybody’s Darling. Fancy but not flashy, elegant but never old-fashioned, this bar is a true hidden gem in Vienna’s First District. It strikes a perfect balance between style and substance, making it a wonderful spot to enjoy one of their signature cocktails – especially after a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of the Old Town. As with all the places mentioned, Everybody’s Darling is easily accessible from our hotel – just two stops by underground, or around a 20-minute walk through the city.

Last but certainly not least, I’d like to highlight the Max Steiner Bar right here in our hotel. This cozy little bar takes on a special charm in the summer, when guests can also enjoy drinks on our lovely terrace. All my colleagues share a genuine passion for hospitality, turning every visit into a warm, friendly experience – like a smooth, comforting hug. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a day of exploring or to enjoy one last cocktail before bed (the bar is open until 11:30 pm), the Max Steiner Bar offers the perfect spot to refresh your evening or prepare for the adventures of the next day.
